Found only in Northern Nevada, this gem has been a treasured part of Native American Heritage. The lore of White Buffalo is rich with Spiritual significance- a symbol of abundance, prosperity, and the unbridled spirit of freedom. So, here's the scoop: White Buffalo Turquoise isn't the turquoise you might think you know. Instead, it's a special blend of minerals that give it its signature creamy white color with dramatic black accents. It's the stone's way of reminding us to celebrate what makes us different.

This amazing black and white stone was first discovered in the Dry Creek Turquoise mine in Tonopah, Nevada. Since it was originally found near the traditional turquoise veins, the miners assumed it to be turquoise. White Buffalo Turquoise is a bit of a rule breaker – it's not technically turquoise because it's missing copper, which gives the traditional stone its blue hue. However upon further testing it is actually a combination of dolomite and argonite…making it a stone classification all on its own.  We use it quite a bit in our one-of-a-kind jewelry collection releases.

A Peek into the Past of White Buffalo Turquoise

Let's time-travel to where it all began, the rugged landscapes of Northern Nevada. The White Buffalo name comes from American Indian lore that White Buffalos are very rare…much like this stone…and hence, this new find was named White Buffalo. It is a bit of a wild child of a stone, and once released to the market, jewelry designers fell in love with this rugged and unique stone…me included.  

Native Americans have long treasured it, weaving tales of the White Buffalo into their rich history. It's a symbol that means a lot of good stuff – abundance, good luck, and the freedom to roam. Every piece of this stone has a story to tell.

I love using it in necklaces, rings, bracelets and pretty much in everything in between. It is perfect for those who want to make a bold statement but are not partial to traditional “turquoise”. I prefer the big bold black stripes and become giddy when I manage to find White Buffalo turquoise hearts!
